Huh??? I just went out and checked my 98. The only part on the right side of the bike (as seen from the standard seating postion) is what the book exploded parts diagram calls a transient enrichment valve diaphram assembly (power valve/accelerator pump?). No wires of any kind. The other side of the carb only has the throttle cable assembly. I checked the wiring, fuel, emissions control sections of the book, and none show wires on the carb, nor does my 98 owners manual that came new with the bike.

Are you sure your bike hasn't been somehow retrofit with the computer and EFI off of a different bike? Stranger things have been known to happen, especially when you buy a used motorcycle.
